Known for his distinct pen and ink style, Gorey produced over 100 books in his lifetime. His subject matter was often dark and comedic, taking place in a sort of twisted Victorian or Edwardian setting. He did not create books specifically for children, though they are often enjoyed by them. He is well known for designing the look of Dracula on Broadway and for the title animation of Mystery! on PBS.
